08 PERFORMANCE???
ORIGINAL: madurodave
Are there that many changes to the '08's? Aren't they still the same 96ci engines? Pipes are the same, frame is the same, O2 sensors are there. The 2007 upgrades should work for the 2008's, shouldn't they?

Frame is a little different up top, but major diff. is the new ECM it rules out any of the present day tuning device being used, so if you cant re-tune it, why add aftermarket performance parts?

Ha! That last post of mine just shows to go you what happens when you take a while to reply and don't fetch a fresh copy before doing so...
Oh, it had the restriction (still does). Harley has to submit complete motorcycle packages to the EPA for certification. Their various street-legal "stage" stuff has to go through the process before they can sell it.
Getting a Stage X setup from the dealer will not help much if any with the heat issue. It can't.

I just noticed my new parts catalogue - the Screaming Eagle performance items such as the 110 kit are "Pending Regulatory Approval". I am glad my 2007 didn't have that restriction!

If a bike with that combination of components has not been submitted for certification by the EPA, and passed, then it's not street-legal. If the dealer gets popped doing that to bikes known to be destined for road use they are going to pay dearly. I predict that not too far into the future we'll be seeing more wrist-slapping and less willingness to accommodate customers in that fashion.
A local chainsaw shop will not do any more to a current model saw than put maybe a new bar/chain on it without ensuring all aspects of the exhaust/noise emissions are intact for risk of a $15,000 fine. Most serious sawyers will open up the restrictive mufflers and lop off the carb-needle limiter cap tabs in order to get them to run right. Professionals working in national forests cannot risk doing that and their saws burn up at an alarming rate.
"We" are not the only folks having trouble with our new engines as-delivered.
