That's odd. My first thought would be the wiring for the front stop lamp switch is some how intermittently connecting to the wiring for the start switch.
In other words ya got an intermittent short in the right handle bar controls where wiring is crammed into tight place.

What's been worked on recently?
WP
it also engages the starter by applying the rear brake . I thought it may have been the aftermarket stereo so I replaced it with the aq aquatic plug and play for harley . That has been the only thing touched since I bought it 4 years ago other than fluids and tires
I don't have schematics to look at for your bike. It could happen that way I think
Has it done this since you got it ?
no this only started 3 months ago . when everything is quiet and i engage either brake i can hear a click around the starter area but cant locate it and its not the same click i get when i push the start button. This is with the green wire unhooked to the starter so it won't start . Also the stereo is unhooked for test purposes

the click you’re hearing is likely the brake rely inside the fuse box .that’s normal. As stated post in the electrical forum. A number of excellent troublehooters will likely reply.

Wait a second Are you make the assumption that the click is the starter??? when you press on the brake does the starter actually engage or try to engage when green wire is hooked up ?
