Incredible timing again Iclick and great advice. After spending the weekend in the Sierra with a few Buddies (CBX club) and agressively riding highway 4, 88, 89and highway 49. I found myself wanting to go sportier and longer on the suspension. These are all greatideas. My question: has anyone used Works or Ohlins shocks and fork springs? Worth it or just go with Progressive shocks on the rear?
Back in April I did a write-up here on a bad experience I had with Works Performance ( https://www.hdforums.com/m_1558407/tm.htm ). In the end I received a total refund and some nice emails from the COO of WP, so that unfortunate episode is over. I can say that WP shocks are reportedly excellent replacements for stock, especially the 12" stock HD air shocks. The problem I had was that in the install instructions WP claims the shocks require "periodic maintenance," and buried deep in their FAQ is a blub that this may be required every 30-40k miles. I didn't like the idea of removing the shocks every few years and returning them to CA at a cost of $85.

I ended up going with 12½" Progressive 440's with standard springs, which was a big improvement. They have a lifetime warranty, and if they ever fail they will be fixed or replaced. Progressive told me it isn't unusual for their shocks to last >100k miles. OTOH, WP told me that any shock is totally shot at 50k miles, which from my experience is total rubbish.

What you might look into for stabilizing the bike in corners is to install a Ride Str8 or True Track. I selected the Ride Str8 and proclaim it a worthwhile although pricey upgrade. It will mostly eliminate the wobble and wagging on fast sweepers from the swingarm flex that affects rubber-mounted bikes. I wrote it up here: https://www.hdforums.com/m_1957210/tm.htm

With as many people as want lower dressers, you should be able to trade your shocks for some standard ones and not have any expense at all.
The 13" shocks can be found on Ebay for around $50, but the low-profile (12") shocks can go much higher, >$200 IIRC.

You're just a wuss, suck it up. Even girls can do it..

OK, I admit it. Probably explains why I've been looking at the BMW 1200 RT's lately.

Now don't be going traitor on us just because you're a wuss. You wouldn't be happy with anything else and would be back to HD in a year. Besides, they you would have to get a BMW forum all broke in.

Ordered Works Performance Street Tracker shocks in 12.5" on the good advise of Iclick. Works says 12.5" is the lowest they can go and use their dual rate springs and threaded pre load. These shocks look trick and work great. I have had them on three other bikes and always loved them. With the Avon tires I ordered this should help a bunch. Next on the list is a Ride STR8. Now....fork oil weights???????. Ideas?
