DO NOT BUY A SERT. Very few dealerships understand them, and most independents will not touch them. Just my .02. Dealers are trying to make money, nothing more, so take their "recommendations" with a grain of salt and a shot of common sense. They want your money, they do not care how your rig runs.

Do a search for the Terminal Velocity and compare to other systems. This was the only system that made sense to me.

I have had a PowerCommander on my 02 for 5yrs. no problems. The SERT is just another way for Harley to trap you.Only Harley dealers have the software to adjust it (labor$$$$$)The PC3 will work very well and almost anyone with a dyno can map it.If your mods our not going into the engine,I suggest the Vance and Hines Fuel Pack.

Not entirely true. While i will concede i have heard stories of dealers trying to keep the dongle etc. The original SERT came with the cables and software and were rightfully yours when you bought them.

None the less, as long as you had the original dongle matched to your bikes fuel injection controller, you could get it dynoed anywhere.

If you wanted to print the SERT Docs on the software CD, it actually explains for you which base map to used loaded on the CD, (based on which mods you had) then how to actually fine tune the new map through out the entire RPM range (250rpm increments) and throttle positions in the different driving modes fairly simply. In essence if you have a laptop, can read English and follow directions, you could tune the bike in your garage with out the dyno pretty damn close to dead nuts on. At least in my experience.

The benefits of this is, I dont have to wait for a map from any manufacturer when a new product comes out. Not that i am interchanging parts that often, but essentially your tuned customizedSERT map becomes your own to your specific bike etc.

My understanding with the Power Commanders was you loaded an as close as you could get base map to your mods/bike then could only make incremental fine tuning changes in the low/mid/high rpm ranges. I think for a lot of people this works out well and they are satisfied

For me though the SERT gives way more opportunity for fine tuning the fuel injection. I also get a few diagnostic modes to record data while underway for trouble shooting engine issues etc.

i bought a pc3 it was ok for filter and exhaust.... but when i did my 98 inch build it didnt have wide enough tunning parametors and i was getting a ton of pinging....spoke with a few people from this site, and some companies.... all said toss the pc3 as it doesnt do enough...(would of needed a harley flash then another tune with pc3) dtt was well spoken of but i was told and believed through long conversations that SERT is the best tunner on the market.... so i picked one up... a few local shops felt they could tune the scoot for me with no problem, but i decided to go to a well known and respected guy down in Georgia...Kevin Baxter......he came highly reconmended from Phil M. and Doug from Head-quarters.. so i made to 600 mile trip and called it a vacation.....he spent 20 hours tunning and giving me an education....and on my way home i hit the dragon, hell bender, blue ridge and enjoyed the trip...... bike runs better than it ever did, no pinging, spinning tire and liftin the wheel shiftin into 2nd, i got 38mpg on way home on interstate at 80mph...on way down i was getting 31 with the pc3.......

i wouldnt touch a pc3 unless you are sure your only doing minor mods....

That Cobra FI2000 sure is easy on the wallet compared to a PC or SERT, and Dyna time. Anyone else have any expierence or recommendations with this product?
huh? the pcIII is only maybe 20 bucks more, and there are a ton of maps available for download. a dyno is not required. sure, you might be able to squeeze that last little bit out, but the map will get you within 95%...

if it took 20 hours to tune it I don't want anything to do with it. What does 20 hours of tuning cost? I have been running the PC for years. I have the PCIII on my o6 Classic. I installed it myself, downloaded the appropriate map, & installed it with my lap top. I had it fine tuned by Carls Speed Shop in Daytona, in about 15 minutes.

It works great & I can take it off and use it on another bike. Once the SERT locks onto your ECM It will only work with that ECM. If that ECM takes a crap you'll be getting a new SERT as well.

lol... i said we spent 20 hours tunning it....but we timmed each cylinder seperately, adjusted fuel in all throttle positions, got it real close then spent some time getting the most we could for my style of driving (touring and ripping) we gave the bike what it wanted and found its sweet spot......im sure it can be done in a few minutes if your doing a canned map... then when they fine tune for 15 minutes all there doing is afr... which again, is not a problem for the guy with some pipes and a filter....

on a pc3 you have afr and some timming adjustment 10 degrees + or - from where the factory timming is set at...and both afr and timming is done for both cylinders identically.... from my memory the front cylinder is more efficient than the rear so slight tweaks of afr and timming between the two cylinders makes a difference... ie cylinder head temps are real close to each other......

on a sert you have afr for each cylinder, timming for each cylinder, you have a way to log and see if your getting knock... (you cant always hear it) you have a way to measure and i believe adjust vulumetric efficency... you have more capability to change pulse width and duration of the injectors...Bottom line the sert has More tunning capabilities than the pc3 and for some it is well worth it....

would i use a pc3 ? yep.... for a pipe and filter...beyond that it falls short....

dont trust in me on this, call doug from headquarters, go to there yahoo group and educate yourself and then make an opinion....talk to Kevin Baxter on the group, he is very talented and helpful

hmm, guess i need to go buy another powercommander. i've got about 4k on mine now.
Yeah, I'm way past due at 9k. I wonder if Fuel Moto will give volume discounts, as I might need to stock up on PCIII's.
