Default 2018 Road King Special Riser Install

I got a 2018 Road King Special, and I am wanting to install some risers on it but need some information first. I have read some posts saying that the bars on a RK Special are 1.25 diameter all the way with no taper, but haven't found anything that confirms that. Does anyone know for sure because I don't see too many risers for 1.25 diameter. I also was wondering what is the max height I could get without having to install wiring kit to increase length. I am about 5'9" so even with the little mini apes they put on them I have a difficult time reaching for a comfortable ride, especially at interstate speeds. I was looking at set of 6.5" pull back risers here https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...ers-for-harley

Anyone able to help me know before I take it all apart if this will fit without splicing and extending wires, and also with the bars on a RK special.

Thanks!

I cant comment on the need for longer wires but the handlebars are a larger diameter than the RK's

So they don't taper down to 1 inch where the risers attach?

The clamp size on a RK Special is 1.25" so that riser will not work with the stock bars.

OK, thanks for that. I will start looking for 1.25 diameter ones now. Hopefully there is someone on here that has done this before to a special. I haven't been able to find anything online for people who have.

Harley claims these will work for the Road King Special, but they are in a black anodized finish, which likely won't match the black powdercoat on the specials.

You'll also need a new top clamp, and handlebar/console cover.

From other threads, and doing a handlebar swap on my stock '19 Road King, you can go to about 14" total rise before having to replace brake and clutch lines. At that height you will have to add wiring extensions, but those are plug and play on the new bikes and are about $30 for a set.

Might be more economical to get some different bars with with more pullback. The stock RKS bars are effectively 8"-9" tall bars, and have a strange wrist angle. Some 10 or 12" apes (such as the Straight Jacket from KST Kustoms), set inline with the fork angle or pulled back slightly, might be more comfortable for you in the long run.
KST also offers a couple of models that have adjustable pullback so you can dial in what is comfortable without having to change bars, but those are more expensive than the standard Straight Jackets

If you put in make and year, it says will not fit RKS however those that have installed them says there's clearance issues with the QD windshield not latching. Wonder if a pullback plate can be used such as the Trex plate from Krause....

When I put on my 12" Yaffe Monkey bars on my RKS, I bought a used set of standard RK risers and used Yaffe's top clamp to accommodate the 1" bars. OEM RKS bars are 1.25 at the clamping area. You'll need wiring extensions but the other cables should be fine.
