Default 2000 King replacement carbs.

I recently jumped on a Y2K Road King from a older rider that couldn't handle it safely anymore he worried after a close call
3200+ original miles... garage keep always.
I won't post what I stole this King for to keep the hate out of the post.
It's all original including the carburetor.
Looking for suggestions on what new carb I should go with.
with.Not Looking for speed (It's an 88)
But want to strap the best it will take.
Any & all replies would be appreciated!

You could pull the original carb and clean it, Install the Premium Tuners Kit from CV Performance. https://cv-performance.com/harley-ca...ium-tuners-kit
https://cv-performance.com/harley-tuners-kit-jetting

Other options are Mikuni HSR 42 which a lot of people love and the S&S Super E which also has a big following.

Harley's stock cv carburetor is a great carb. I'd just take it apart, soak it in a can of Berryman Chemdip over night. Blow out all holes. Use a needle to make sure the jets are clear. Put it back together and run the wheels of of it. (After you replace them 20 year old tires)

You could do engine mods adding 30hp and still not exceed the ability of the CV to supply fuel and air

Nice stock survivor bike and you say “not looking for speed “

put it in a 45 pilot jet to alleviate epa lean tuning ( if it doesn’t already have it)

Leave that carb on it

jmo

as long as the carb body cleans up, rebuild what you have, cheaper than buying a S&S

You never said if it runs. If it’s running and there isn’t a specific reason to change the carb I would probably add fresh gas with a little seafoam and ride a tank or two through it like that to clean it up a bit.

I put S&S 509 gear drive cams along with a Mikuni HRS 42 carb in my 2000 Heritage. If you want to spend some cash, you will love the torque and sound and throttle response. ;-)

But really, the CV carb with a performance kit performs really well.

Keep the factory CV. They're great carbs.

Cleaning it up process has already begun...
Thanks for your reply!
Now...as for the "20" Y/O tires you mentioned...
What's your manufacturer of choice & type for this King?
Really appreciate your input!!!

I am running michellin commander 2's on mine. lots of good tires available. dunlops, avons, pirrelli, make sure you get the heavy duty for touring, they will perform better for that rk.
