What are you using for riding boot?
I was thinking of a pair of riding boots for better comfort and protection for my foot and ankle. I have slip ons now but feel they offer little protection for my feet and ankles.
Columbia - Newton Ridge is my winter/wet weather choice. Very comfortable with softer outsole for my junk knees. Gonna look soon for a spring/summer boot in the same brand.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Bates yet. I commute on my bike and wear them daily. Even when the weather sucks and I take my truck. They aren't "motorcycle" boots but the one's I wear are waterproof, breathe and give decent ankle protection, The soles are nice and grippy and they are uniform boots made for people that stand all day so they are very comfortable. They also take a shine well so they look nice at work during the week or an ice house on the weekend.
They are not designed for accident protection but the ones I wear are thick leather and high enough over the ankle that they wont come off. I hope I never have to find out how well they protect in an accident.
I believe there are two main types of boots that people wear on motorcycles, outside of a dedicated motorcycle riding boot. They would be an "engineer" style slip-on boot or a "lace-up" work/tactical style boot...
I've worn both types over the years. Both have pluses and minuses... but whatever you decide, I would suggest buying a good, quality boot.
FWIW.... I am currently wearing Danner Quarry boots as my dedicated riding boots. I only wear them when I ride. They are lace-up, with leather uppers, gore-tex lined, and have an aggressive Vibram sole.. I have been riding with the same pair of these boots since 2011... They offer good ankle support and are very durable... I have had them re-soled once, and when I occasionally throw some boot polish on them, they look like new...
