tuning question
Ok, I'm just looking for some more torque for two up riding. Say I get a Stage two Big Bore kit, and that is the last time that I will add any power. Couple that with dresser duals and SE mufflers. Is the HD reflash all I need to do? Is the PC worth it at that point? Do I have to do the reflash and the PC? I really don't care if I can squeeze an extra 2 hp out of it, I just want more than I have now. Thanks.
i like the DTT, in the long run it tunes better and cheaper for me...if you never change the components again, i would do a PC cause lots of competent tuners are out there as opposed to SERT tuners...i have little confidence in a download.....consider doing the 3.37 gearing in the primary....gears make things move and your bike is a perfect candidate with or without boosting the engine....all for 400 bucks
If there is just a "reflash" for the entire combination it will have to leave you set up with EPA blessing and that's a large part of the reason these 96" engines put out so much heat already. You'd be making more at, what is it, 103"?
The closest reflash might be a good idea anyway just to get you close enough to be safe should you get a PC or other piggy-back to make things right and it (God forbid) fails at some point. At least then you'd have to feel better about just bypassing it and getting yourself home again.

mine's an 04, so I'm looking at the 95" kit with the 203 cams. the catalog says "requires ecm calibration". that's what I want to know about. Is that sufficient? I bought a hand held tuner for my Mustang, and I wish i had done it sooner, but I am constantly modding that. This will be the last thing I do to the motor, at least for a long long time, so it seems like a waste if I use a PC only once. That is, if the calibration that HD offers will at least get me running properly. I know it won't be perfect, but at least I won't be running dangerously lean or anything. I hope....
Guess I missed the '04 part...
If HD has a recalibration that specifically includes the "dresser duals" as part of the configuration then you should be good to go. I don't think the '04 regs were as stringent or that you'd have to have it calibrated to specs more recent than that. If they do have to recalibrate up to current regs expect some more heat.
If they don't have a download already prepared for the duals it would be in your best interest to get it made right by use of either a SERT or an aftermarket control system of some type.
