I use this End Cap Oil Filter Wrench - 14900138 | Harley-Davidson USA (harley-davidson.com) But I'm not above using the channel locks or a screw driver.

I always warm it up so the oil flows out better. It may crack if you do. Like TriGeeezer said, probably seated itself, heat won't hurt the process.

The way I was taught, the other reason to warm it up is to help suspend the contaminants into the oil so they will flow out while draining instead of laying on the bottom of your oil pan. Sounded good to me so that's what I always do. Good luck with that filter though......

I’ve crumpled and ripped filter shells off the base, because the filter was so tight.

In the end, chisel and hammer on that base.

I had to use a cheap end cap type and drilled three holes in it then drilled screws in the end of the filter through the cap. It wasn’t the cleanest but it came off

Use the Harley filter remover with the slot then put a self tapping screw by the slot into the filter and remove. Works every time

And put the next one on by hand, Not saying you did but, some people act like an oil filter is in the same league as DT 466 head bolt!
