Default SVC Manual

Friend of my riding buddy has a svc manual for a 2020 FLHTK. He will sell to me cheap but my question...

IS there much/any difference in the 2021 (That I have) to the 2020 that I would need a manual for a 2021 specifically?

Cool

Good question! We generally recommend getting the correct manual, as with such a new model the full extent of any changes the MoCo has introduced will not be obvious yet, and will only become obvious if you bump into something unexpected. On the other hand much of the 2020 book will be relevant, so.....

The main difference is the clutch cable, the 2020 manual will not cover the new clutch cable. and they changed the ECM connections. correct me if I am wrong.

Yes there are differences in the manuals and bikes . Clutch is one. New ECM is another and likely a few other things we have not be told about yet.

If you are going to do a lot of the work on your bike.... I would get the proper manual...

Chances are you would be fine, and they may in fact be the exact same manual with a different year on the cover...

Or.... There could be running production changes in parts, procedures, and/or models... all of which you could miss having the prior year manual...

When I use my service manuals for a job I have no experience with, I trust that my best chance to get the right information, will be with the correct model/year service manual...

OK, I will have to also admit, my OCD might make me crazy if I had a 2021 bike in my garage, and only a 2020 service manual on the shelf...

Note: Smitty901 and I were writing at he same time... see, there were differences between the model years... all the more reason to get the proper manual

Get the updated manual. The 2020 manual will likely work- right up until it doesn't. And will you be able to know when it doesn't? A new manual is what- $120 plus or minus. Subtract what your friend would charge for the 2020 manual- that is the price you'll pay to have the correct manual. I'd pay the extra.
