Odds are "swedging" ( expanding ) mufflers will result in splitting them ... especially if they have "slits" on the inlet already ... Better off to cut off and weld in new inlets of the correct size
[QUOTE=todd-67;19837839]It would but it might kick the muffler back too far to fit in the mount under the saddle bag.
I have a 2016 Road Glide. I installed a stock head pipe that was de-catted. The noise level increased a bit, of course. I wouldn't say they're obnoxiously loud but the guy on the freeway next to me with his window down may not agree.
While they were off I looked through one muffler and could see a tiny bit of light. FWIW.
Thanks for all the replies, all good suggestions. I do not want to kick mufflers back. I have a nice set of stock mufflers. Inlet outside diameter is 1 7/8. Header pipe inside diameter is just a half hair under 1 7/8. Can almost slip muffler INTO pipe. I think header pipe can be expanded just slightly and it will go. As long as it is a nice snug fit it should not leak even though pipe is fit over muffler inlet, not inside. There are two joints in my Panhead dual exhaust that slip over instead of into the next pipe and that is factory and they don't leak so I am going to try it. I'll update.
I would assume the Screaning Eagle ones are louder than I would like. I have made some progress and have had good luck expanding the head pipes. It didn't need much. Will post some pics soon.
You may be right klc about the odd diameter. This is what I've done so far. Have successfully expanded head pipes to accept muffler inlets, nice snug fit. Next I'm going to slit head pipes per Senecagreen's suggestion and use clamps that were on there (the stock Harley clamps are too small and don't seem to want to expand around the 2" pipes). Just for good measure I'm going to use some Ultra Copper high heat silicone on joints. I'll update when done.
Update: got stock mufflers on. Did not slit head pipes, did a test and clamps squeezed nicely. As long as high temp goober doesn't fail it will be good. Unm
Took bike out today. Sounds and runs way better. Idles smoother and ZERO popping on decel, and I tried like hell to get it to do it. I can hear myself think now.
Previous owner that installed duals and mufflers and Stage 1 obviously did not tune it afterwards cuz it runs so good now. Like a different bike.
