Default Oil Cooler

I have a 2006 Ultra Classic with a CSC trike kit on it. I recently added a used Jagg cooler with a fan I picked up and also added an oil temp gauge in place of the air temp gauge that I plumbed into the oil pan. I also used the Accessory switch to turn the fan off and on rather than going through all the issues with wiring the fan up to come on automatically. My thought was that since I have the gauge, I'll know when to turn on the fan. Also mounted the cooler and fan on the frame up tube and took out the wind diverter in the lower faring so the lower fit around the cooler. I gone for a few extended rides and the temp never seems to get above 150 degrees. I haven't done any driving in stop and go traffic yet but I'm wondering if putting the sensor in the oil pan is giving an inaccurate reading of the oil temp. I was thinking of getting the oil temp up and checking the il at the fill tube with an instant read thermometer to compare. Any other thoughts?

You're definitely overthinking the issue.

We all put the sender in the pan. Seems you're just not creating enough heat for the size of cooler you've installed. Close off some air flow and try again.

I made a leather wrap for my JAGG oil cooler on my 02 FXD, If it's cold enough for a jacket then I wrap the cooler, when the jacket comes off cause it warmed up the cover comes off.. My 05and 13 have thermostats in the oil cooler mount base. Oil should get to a minimum of 180* to Cook off any water in the oil.

Did you put in a cooler bypass? It will help regulate the temperature. "Cool" is not better.
