Today I thought I'd test the water and get a quote for a WHIM module and set of two 30K Harley Headsets. With my HOG discount the dealer quoted me $1311 AUD for the parts and 1 hour's labour at $140 AUD for fitment. Sounded a bit steep. What do others think? - should I go ahead with the purchase? I would really like to have wireless connectivity to the infotainment system....
keep looking you can do a little better, that said i love the WHIM(easy install if you want to do it yourself) been running it and the 20s evos for a few years now, just upgraded to the GTS HU for carplay, works perfectly!
I looked into the options when I ordered my 2019 Ultra because I really wanted Apple CarPlay. Yes I could have done it cheaper, but I wanted a solution that would work out of the box with no issues. So I bit the bullet and went with the WHIM and the Harley 10s headset. Only issue I have had is when the operator forgets to charge the headset, but CarPlay still works which is all I really need.
I have had the WHIN from the week it came out . I like it. Sad that they hit you for that much. easy to install but the will then hit you up for the flash anyway. Selling you head set and WHIM at full price they should install and flash free.
Here in the US,On Harley's web site it is: $299.95 for the WHIM module, $49.95 for the wiring harness, $579.95 for the two pack of 30K headsets. So about $930, plus sales tax if you have that in your location, Around here that's 6.5% so $990 for the parts. Convert that to down under monopoly money at the current rate and I get $1,275 AUD. And I though you guys had a GST instead of our sales tax, so $1,300 AUD doesn't sound too bad to me, if that's what you want. The hour of labor is about the same as here when you do the conversion.
Now there are some places like Surdyke that sell Harley parts cheaper than list price. You could do a little better shopping around, and installation isn't that difficult, but you will still need the dealer to flash the radio.
Me personally the WHIM isn't worth it, I just connect my Sena 20S to my phone and leave the bike out of it.
And unless you need the Mesh intecom of the 30K I would go with the cheaper 10S Sena units.

That quote seems perfectly fine to me. It also sounds like they are factoring in the time it takes to help you learn how to use the system, which I think is money well spent. That will save you countless hours reading manuals and getting frustrated. I am assuming that is what "fitment" means, which I interpreted as the labor to install the WHIM and the headsets in the helmets, and instruction on proper use of the system.
what wiring harness is required? I installed the whim on my 2019 rgs and did not have to buy any additional wiring harnesses. dealer hooked me up on flashing for the whim, so no charge there. got the whim for $250, the dual pack of sena hd 30k for $450. the mesh setup in the 30k is great. much easier to connect and communicate. and there are now high def speakers available for the 30k that are supposed to really upgrade the sound.
but, we didn't have any existing comms before we bought these so no reason not to stick with hd branded for full functionality.
Should I go ahead with the purchase? This Internet stranger says sure. Anything else you need to know? Just, kidding.
The price in Australia is the price. All you can do is compare that quote to a quote from another "Australian" dealer to see if it's out of line. What things cost in another country has no bearing on your situation. I'm Canadian, things here cost more than in the States as well.
