FLHTCI / 2006 / Rear cylinder header pipe has a gaping crack at the junction. I'm considering all kinds of replacement repairs. Anyone have any sage advice or experience with this issue, including a retune if I change from OEM pipes?? At this second, I'm contemplating Cobra True Duals to replace the system, currently running cobra tri-ovals as slip-ons.
It happened on my 03 RK...had it welded. It held until a buddy went true duals on his 05 RK and gave me his OEM set.
I guess your options are:
1. weld it...temp fixes are just that....temporary.
2. hunt down a set from someone else selling theirs.
3. replace with OEM or aftermarket, if you were already considering going down that road.
Same in.my 07. Dealer said its a common problem. I felt the VH pipes and stage 1 kit might have contributed with higher pressures. Went to the V&H true duals, problem solved.
The second part of you problem, a tune. You don't need a tune for pipes or an air cleaner as the volume of air in/exhaust out hasn't changed. Now if you're doing TB as part of your upgrades that is a different story and you need one.. can't help you there as my bike had the SE Pro pre EPA tune.

thanks in advance.
Another option I haven's seen metioned is the Power-Tune Duals from S&S or the Khrome Werks equivalent to that setup. They run the rear pipe under the frame like the newer bikes and have a small crossover section that is supposed to eliminate the torque loss from true duals.
