OP mentioned Chicago roads, right now here in West Michigan we are in the middle of a mini heat wave, this causes buckling of concrete roads at the expansion joints. Sometimes the road buckles up with the "ramp" working to your advantage and times the buckle shows the blunt edge of 4+inches of concrete staring at you, then it's like driving over a curb at "X" speed. They do some damage. Glad you found the problem as quick as you did and you had warranty to get it replaced.
