15 Tri Glide and the problem i am having is i start the bike cold and it warms and comes down to about a 1000 rpm's. After i ride it, even after 10 miles when i come to a stop the idle seems to hang about 1400 rpm's for awhile and then drop back down to normal after that. The bike has done this the last 2 times i've ridden it. The vacuum cap is on the throttle body
The throttle body has been cleaned a 1000 miles ago when i installed new tubing for the breathers, which are to the ground. Any ideas ? THANKS !
Whenever I hear "high idle" on a fuel injected engine I immediately think "intake leak". And since work has recently been done in that area that's where I'd start looking for the problem.
Mine does that from time to time. I believe there's a procedure with the ignition switch to reset it. Sometimes it goes away after a few restarts. I read something about letting the bike return to low idle before hitting the kill switch or it will remain on high idle when restarting. One of the quirks of fly by wire I guess.

That's what I was thinking, but you'd expect it to constantly have a high idle in that case. The gasket doesn't stop leaking after a few minutes.
It could be worn butterfly blade gears. Might need to refurbish those.
Well i reset the throttle by turning the switch on and off 4 times and then fired the bike up and it seems fine now. I have been though this before and then it stopped doing it for a long time. Only did it twice to me yesterday, but the ride before that it did it 1 time. Damn throttle by wire crap.

If that was the problem... it's often self inflicted...
The ECM will learn the idle at shutdown... some will turn their wrist ever so slightly when they reach with their thumb to hit the kill switch.. that will raise the idle just a tad at shutdown, and the ECM will learn that... I don't remember exactly, but the ECM learns to average something like the last 3 shutdown idle RPMs...
To avoid it happening again, make sure your hand is off the throttle and it's at the proper idle speed, before shutting off the engine... Then, in theory, it should never happen again...

It seems like i read somewhere that the newer bikes this didn't happen and resetting the throttle didn't matter. I searched my service manual and came up with nothing. It started and idled fine sitting in the garage.
You know i got to thinking about this and i wondered if a weak battery could be the cause of this ? My bike is on the Tender whenever it is not being ridden, but the first start of the day is kind of slow cranking. After it is ridden it starts fine the rest of the day. Just kinda slow in the mornings. I wonder when it's cranking slow if it could be resetting the throttle position sensor ? I don't know if that is even possible on a 15. Battery is going on 3 years old. Just a thought.
Possibly. All I know is since being reminded of this I've been making sure the idle is low before shutting off & my idle is down to like 950 rpm. Mine's an '09 so probably a bit different.
I had a very similar problem with my 05 EFI Deuce , I removed the TP sensor from the side of the throttlebody and slowly sprayed a very small amount of WD-40 on the round disc that on the back . I didn’t change the position or move anything when do this . And then reinstalled the TP back on to the throttlebody and the problem was fixed .
