Hi guys, just picked up a 94 flhtcu. Really nice bike that was my uncle's but it has sat for a while. I've changed all the fluids and normal stuff to get her back out on the road. It runs and rides really well and haven't really had any problems until yesterday. While out riding the radio started cutting in and out, didn't think much about it cause it never affected how it ran, but on the way home(after dark) realized that the headlights were also coming on and off at same time. Nothing ever changes with the engine or performance of bike, but I lose everything on dash for a split second and it happens repeatedly. Heard it could be a ground, the ignition switch, starter, ect. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and if they had a good starting point. Thanks

Sounds like a loose ground or an intermittent short… likely the former, since it isn’t blowing a fuse.

Be sure to check the main battery terminal connections and ensure they are tight and have no sign of corrosion. From there, trace the main wiring and check all of the main points of connection for loose terminations.

If it is affecting lighting and radio, it likely is a primary junction and not just a branch circuit.

Maybe replace all the fuses? There may be some corrosion due to its sitting. I would check all battery connections, grounds and power leads. Just check to make sure there is no corrosion or bad connections. Sitting for long periods can have many affects!
Let us know what you find!
Good Luck.

Welcome to the club. I also have a '94 FLHTCU. I don't know that it would help in this case, but getting the service manual is always a good idea. Your problem certainly sounds like a ground, but checking/replacing the fuses is not a bad place to start. When I got mine, I noticed the radio would not store stations. The problem was a blown 1 amp fuse. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a 1 amp fuse.
Also, in the garage, try the jiggle test; with the bike running (or at least on), jiggle the handlebars and other stuff to see if you can reproduce the problem.
Good luck.
