I recently did an iron butt ride doing 1100 miles in 18 hours. Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. HOT. I had just installed my beadrider.com beads and I also bought some cheap Under Armor knock off shorts from Wal-Mart. NO monkey butt at all! I have left the beads on ever since. I am sold on them. As far as installation, I removed my seat and put the cord under the seat so you would have to cut them off to steal them.
To me the shorts aren't very comfortable, so I only wear them if I am going to be on the bike for a long trip. But the beads are always nice. One day I may try sheepskin or an Airhawk, but right now I can't see why.
OTOH, a buddy of mine bought the beads for his seat and was still uncomfortable. His problem wasn't monkey butt, though, it is an uncomfortable seat. He is keeping the beads and buying a Mustang seat, which is what I have as well. YMMV.

Do the beads fasten to the frame or just lay in the seat?
I don't fasten mine to the seat, just lay them there and sit on them. That way after 100 miles or so when you start getting a sore spot you can push on the floorboards with your feet, and raise your rear end up enough to rotate the beads 90 degrees and when you sit down again it's a brand new seat with no more hot spots.
I currently have the gel pad w/ sheepskin. The sheepskin keeps me dry, but its really not that comfortable and it raises me up in the wind coming over the shield. Does the beads raise the seat hieght much.
Under AmourBoxerJock shorts are more like regular under wear. Don't get the compression ones. I wear the t-shirts as well every day at work. I don't think I will wear cotton underwear again in the summer!
For those of you who have the Beadriders, how much does it elevate you off the seat? It would seem they would jack you up 1/2" or so from the normal position.

Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you later this week.
