Default Shifters Not Tightening

So I recently had my shifters powder coated black. I have them tightened as much as I can and they still aren’t completely tightened down. Anyone else have this problem? How did you fix it? I assume the powder is keeping them from compressing all the way down. Just not sure what needs sanded down for sure.

The shifter peg and shaft are splined. You'll have to get the paint out of every one of the grooves on the peg with a small sharp instrument. Tape up the peg so you don't scratch it. Hopefully the paint is not on all the splines or very far down the grooves.

My Indie recommends on older shifters to get a Dremmel and take a few mm out of the 'slot' where the pinch bolt goes through. Doing that gives it a tight cinch onto the shift peg. If your was powder coated, it may be adding a little thickness in there and not allowing it to properly tighten. I did this to my old shift arm, as it slightly stripped on a ride, and it worked fine until I finally replaced it just a few weeks ago

That may be the ticket. I will check that and the splines. Thanks guys.

Bought a Dyna 2 yrs ago, owner had let the shifter lever stay loose. Stripped it out just enough it would not clamp. Chewed on shaft a little too. The dreaded one behind the primary. Found a product called the "Better Lever" it's a replacement that instead having a pinch bolt it has a u shaped clamp that bolts on both sides. And has "Teeth" to lock down. No need to remove primary, just dremel old one off and it bolts on. Been 2 years. And still no problems
