I dont have buffeting. The windshield is just huge and well above my vision. I want to find one that's just low enough to see over,, but still effective. This is my first bike with a windshield and the difference on the highway is amazing. I couldn't imagine going back.

Edit: I did some measuring and 16" looks to be about right. Thank you

I've custom cut a few windshields. Here's how I do it: Give the rider a medium point black sharpie and have them ride down the road and get comfortable, holding the sharpie in their mouth like a cigar if needed. Look straight ahead and put a dot with the sharpie just about an inch below where you look down the road normally. Or where you believe your nose to be. You want to look over the windshield enough so that when you're at a stoplight behind a car you can clearly see the driver. The object is to deflect the wind over your helmet and not into your face. When they have that dot I take a piece of cardstock paper and tape it to the top of the windshield leaving about 1 ft below. Then I trace the arch of the windshield onto the cardstock, remove it, and cut along that line with scissors. I then tape the entire windshield with painters tape and align the top of that cutout template with the dot. Make sure its aligned straight, and copy the template to the now taped windshield and remove the template. I used a good jigsaw with a taped bottom plate and a multi tooth blade made for plastic. Cover the fender and tank and cut slowly and carefully by straddling the fender. This helps hold the windshield too. When done I use a combination of file and sanding block to final shape and smooth. You may have to taper the ends where your template matched the windshield so it doesn't appear to "bulge". Finally, using a glove, and a clean cotton terry cloth, use just one finger and wet the towel with MEK and quickly run it around the cut edge. You don't want it wet enough that it runs down the windshield! The MEK will "flash" the dulled, sanded edge semi clear and nobody will know you cut your windshield. That is unless you cut it crooked or break it! Warning! Dont snort or drink that stuff! LOL! I can send pics of the two I currently have in the garage to provide proof if you like.

I ordered a 16", but if it winds up being wrong it free's me up to hack on the stock one without being concerned about ruining it. Hell, I might anyway just for fun. Thank you for the detailed instructions. If I end up cutting it up I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

The new shield showed up tonight. It looks so much better than the giant one and sitting on it, it looks like it's about perfect. The original one measured out at a huge 21". This is 16.
