Default Engine and transmission light

My 2006 Ultra Classic Electra Glide was not run for almost a year because of a disease I had. Now installed new battery and changed all the oils and oil filter. I start engine with no problem and will idle with no lights coming on. When I ride less than a mile engine and transmission lights come on, I stop and turn my ride off, a few seconds later I start back up and no lights, unless I ride it, which the lights come back on. Get home and look for a fault code and get P0562 battery voltage low fault code. Please can anyone help with this problem?

Do you have a multimeter to check charging voltage? You need to verify if it's charging, Should be around or over 13.5v when running.

Checked battery while running engine two to three minutes and the multimeter was only at 11.8. Does this mean the voltage regulator is bad?

Definitely charging system issues. 11.8 your just reading the battery voltage and it's not charging at all. Could be regulator or stator or both. There used to be a " sticky" at the top of the page on how to test both but I don't see it anymore. Use the search function here or google or you tube and you will find plenty of descriptions on how to test much better than I can describe.

In my limited experience, low voltage usually means the stator. If it was high voltage I would lean towards the regulator but I would find the charging system troubleshooting directions and follow them before throwing parts at it. I had a charging issue once and got very lucky and while testing, found that the voltage regulator had simply come unplugged. I hope you have similar luck.

Check this thread. He found that the wires from the bars to the neck had internal breaks causing an intermittent. It would explain all of your comm codes and probably the start switch code as well. Check really closely because the wire can be broken even though the insulation looks good. Sometimes you can feel a slight narrowing of the wire at the break point.

Good luck and let us know what you find
