Forgive me but I feel it needs to be said. These units will do nothing to decrease driveline lash. In fact it could well be argued that they increase it. Lash is basically the delay that accrues between the time when the first shaft in the series (crankshaft when under power) starts to spin and when the last one (rear wheel under power) responds to it. If there are several shafts spinning in series, with some amount of lash between each one (as is what happens in the real world) the delay adds from one to the next. By the time the last one starts turning in response, the first one has gotten a pretty good head of steam up already. When that final load gets felt it's a harder shock than it would have been if there were zero lash in the system.

So while in fact the IDS adds a bit of lash, at least it absorbs the shock load generated. From the looks of it, it is balanced more toward damping the driving motion rather than the engine-braking one.

Another drawback to driveline lash is it can make for jumpy response to small changes of the throttle. In that sense it can be likened to talking to someone on the other side of a satellite link. There is a delayed interaction where you are not certain that pause is the other person being done expressing their thought or merely taking a moment to think of the next word. So the conversation doesn't flow as well as it could. And this might be stretching it a little, but the IDS could be likened to each member of the conversation saying "over" when they're done with their turn. It makes the best of the situation.

my apologies, I likely used the term "lash" incorrectly. I am not technically versed on drivetrains in any way.
The system is quieter. It's smoother. I noticed no jumpy throttle response whatsoever.

Well, you certainly weren't the first to bring the term to the discussion, and I wasn't picking on you so I apologize for making you uncomfortable if I did.

It works, now everyone who has the problem knows they were not hearing things or going crazy as some have suggested on this board. HD fixed what they screwed up with a new model, happens to the best of companies and the 07 buyers knew they were at icreased risk being the test rats for a new model with numerous changes ( mostly for the better). HD should step up to the plate and take care of the bill for the experiment. That said I bet the number of overall posts will drop by25% on the forum.

Now if we could take only take care of the low tempon the engine and exhaust.

Ha ha! And all this time I was thinking the stock engine controls were doing a pretty good job of handling the low temperature problem...

Everybody repeat after me; the IDS is not a fix, it is a band aid on a much deeper problem. Has any body paid attention tothe wild tolerances found with these 07 tranny/engine? Correctly build the engine/tranny and you won't need the IDS (band aid). Also, the IDS (band aid) doesn't do anything to correct the out of spec engine/tranny, and neither will the IDS (band aid)prevent the engine/tranny from coming a part, which will be sooner than later.
Man, you are a gloom and doom sort of person. Those are especially harsh words to hear for someone like me who just spent nearly 20K on an 07 RG.

I wouldn't give it another thought. You bought a quality piece of equipment. Enjoy it. I'm enjoying mine. I don't believe he has one bit of first-hand information to back up any of those claims. He's obviously disgruntled about something.

Well add me to the list of FIXED!!
I installed the IDS this morning. I even pressed the bearing in myself..no probs.

Well just as everyone else said it's a different bike. No clatter anywhere, bike is smoother all around. No wonder the 08 guys aren't bitching.
Freaking awesome... it's an easy install, took maybe 2 hours. But be sure you have a 36mm socket for the rear axle nut. I didn't and the dang thing cost like 18 bucks..

Good luck guys!
