Default Question for Road King Riders

I have had several Electra and Road Glides. Currently have a Tri-Glide which is great with my wife on it, but I want a second bike for solo riding. I am considering a used Road King. I like the smaller footprint of a Road King. My question is about wind protection on the freeways. I want to be able to ride 80mph and not get blown off the bike. I had an early Kawasaki (not a sport bike) over 20 years ago that had no windshield and it was ok up to about 50 mph. I put a windshield on it and that helped but it was definitely not great on the freeway. How is the Road King on freeways?

You're supposed to feel the wind on a motorcycle......if you don't like it, drive a car.
ballsey statement. I’ll go the opposite, not using available technology to make the ride more enjoyable is for idiots.
I put the fangs and a windshield and with that combination have done 500 plus miles a days and still feel good when I get off the bike.
I can guarantee, if you are doing that kind of milage, especially highway miles, which I doubt by your statement, you don’t feel great after the day of riding.
oh and I can assure you I feel enough wind to let me know I’m on a motorcycle.

to answer the OP. second RK and would buy another

How is the Road King on freeways?

Most excellent. 23,000 miles and counting on mine, hundreds of 18 wheelers passed, every road imaginable, every weather condition except snow and ice, thrilled every time I get on it.

The kings are awesome. The windshield is large enough and does a great job of keeping all of it off of you .

A Road King with a windshield is a definite touring motorcycle.
The size width/height is dependent on you.
I like to look just over the windshield but some folks prefer to look through the windshield although that destroys vision in the rain in my opinion.

I love my Road King and have never had issues without a windshield on hwy or freeway, a good seat and good bars that fit YOU will keep you in the saddle comfortably at freeway speeds. But that being said your used to having a fairing by the sounds of things. And even with how much I love my RK, there are major benefits to a fairing, and not just keeping the bugs, dust/dirt and wind out do your face. In my mind a RoadGlide without the tour pack is the best of both worlds to find that “happy medium” for people that want windshields/fairings but want the handling and openness of a RoadKing, if that makes any sense. I know it would be my choice if I gave up my RoadKing.

I had a giant windshield on mine when I got it. It would be good up to any speed, but I had to look through it and that was a no-go. I recently swapped it out for a 16" and now I look over it and it blocks the wind perfectly fine up till about 80. At 80 the wind starts to pick up a bit, but it's still not bad at all.

I bought a used Klock Werks billboard flare yesterday and I can tell that it makes a difference over the factory shield.

The windshield is great and you could always add those fork fangs if you want less wind. But then again, you could always add a detachable batwing. I have a plain-Jane batwing on mine for cooler weather and those long haul trips.

I agree with adding the " fangs " , it takes away 80% of the wind below the tank . I have a 14" shield on mine and I love this bike , especially at higher speeds .
