Hi guys! Anyone heard if there is major changes coming on the touring models for 2022 like a new frame to compete with the Indian frame and suspension? I am looking at adding a bike for two up riding since my wifes back cant handle riding on the Aprilia. I would hate to buy something right now if a better frame is planned for next year
But the MoCo is pretty good at keeping changes, especially major changes, quiet until the dealer's meeting announces the new model year bikes...
Neither the MoCo, nor their dealers, want to end up with a showroom floor full of new models from last year, because the MoCo announced (or let slip) a major change to next year's models...
Doubt there will be any big changes before the new Rev Max engine is added to the touring models. It will require a new frame and most likely a mono shock rear suspension. When that happens is anybody's guess.
EPA and Euro standards will drive that date. The M8 is meeting current and short term regulations.
With the "new green" administration future EPA regulations could be advanced or new ones added that could alter the time line for that models release.
No doubt there are at least engineering studies if not a test mule in development.
The current touring models with some basic shocks and seat changes can make even the most sensitive riders comfortable.
New "Ultra Tour" touring line with a punched out 1450 Rev Max to compete with BMW etc ultra touring rigs. 160-170 HP
All the modern features of the Pan America with new modern body plastics, mono shock, auto ride height, etc, etc.
M8 will stay with the current touring (classic) line.

Given HD's history - it's VERY unlikely that the M8 will be replaced any time soon.
Rev-Max might augment it on the sides but the M8 has years to go before the development/tooling costs are covered. I would guess any future frame changes to the touring line would happen at the same time as the RM gets introduced as a replacement, not augmentation. Be a ways away yet.
