Default Electrical Issues in Starting System

Hello all, at the moment I am working on a friends bike, it is a 2001 Electra Glide Standard with the 88 ci engine. A few days ago he had taken the bike to my house for a wash, upon shutting the bike down when he pulled in, it would not start afterwards. When we would press the start button all you can hear is a constant clicking noise, after tracking the noise we found it was coming from the starter solenoid (I can feel the “clicking noise” on the cover of the solenoid, which I assume is the plunger hitting the cover). Checked the battery which he had just bought, read 12.9, took it to be bench tested anyway, this also had a positive result. Looking for help on where to go next. Planning to check the voltage at the trigger wire tonight, which it should check out since the plunger is moving in the solenoid. I also plan to go through every ground and connection to clean and tighten tonight. Any other tests I should run before pulling the starter to run a bench test? Also someone had mentioned to me about bypassing the starting system by directly feeding the starter with power, not sure how to go about that.

12 volts to the small wire on the starter... pull the wire stick a clip lead or a spade connector in there.

There are solonoid end plates with buttons on them that you can press to move the plunger and get the starter to spin

good ground on both ends? Positive cable clean and tight on both ends?

Be sure battery is good. Should have 12.3 volts minimum to turn it over.

Define your "bench test" of the battery. Sure wouldn't pull the starter at this point. Need to check voltage output of the solenoid.

By bench test I mean take to the local parts place and have it tested under load. Output was above 12.5 on both the battery and solenoid. After getting home to work on it, I started with cleaning the fuse block with contact cleaner and then cleaning and tightening all of the grounds. He had a loose ground from the starter, cleaned and tightened it and good to go. Hopefully the loose ground was the only problem
