Default Install time on PCIII???

Hello everyone,
Just wondering what is the usual install time for the Power Commander? Just to install the unit, no dyno. I have been quoted 3 different times ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours. I am confused! Also, where is it installed on the bike? Bike is '07 RKC. Thanks.

It's basically plug and play~ Shouldn't take no more then 30 minutes~ That's just to find the plugs and mount the unit in a convienent spot~ Not sure where the plug is on the RKC, but I would assume right under the seat somewhere... [8D]

I have an '07 RK Classic. Installed PCIII in about 15 minutes. It goes under right side cover, piggy backed onto the ecm with cable ties. Two (2) harness plugs, stock plug goes into PCIII and PCIII plug goes where stock plug went. Very simple on an '07. You'll then need to open software, select and send appropriate map, as well as zero throttle position. Instructions for all are on Power Commander's site. Remember...you must zero throttle position for map to be read correctly.

So what is the purpose of the Dyno? I want to run V&H dresser dual headers, SE Stage 1 AC, Samson Drag Tips (yes, loud I know), and of course not have the jewels on fire anymore. Can I achieve this without the dealer charging me 3 hours of Dyno time? I am pretty bad with my bike mechanical skills so far. Great with cars though!?! Go figure!

The purpose of the dyno is to tune your bike to the modifications that you have made.

Base maps, that come with the PC or can be found on their website, are decent~ Dyno tuning willbuild a custom map that is specific to your bikes setup and get optimal performance and gas milage~

Cool! Thank you. That's what I was wondering. I saw the maps out there and wondered why people do the Dyno.

The dyno will "dial in" where the preloaded maps are usually good canned versions, but all bikes are a little different, so to optimize you set-up and maximize output, you would dyno and tune air/fuel, hp, torque curves to your riding style.

I have an '07 FLHRC, PCIII, Arlen Ness BS AC, and Rinehart TDs.
I've tried several maps over the last few thousand miles, even customizing existing maps based on how bikes running, and now run a stock map, 812-020, which is for my set-up. When I first ran this map back awhile ago, bike ran like sh$t, real rough. After trying several maps as I said, I ended up back at this map. What made a huge differnece was really dialin in the proper throttle position, bike was never really up at temp before, which shifted the map curve and now bikes runs awesome. Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrs. Was thinkin about having dyno'd, now I'll do at some pont but not a priority.

Make sure bike is trulyup at running temp when setting throttle position.

A textbook example of someone waiting to hear the answer they want to hear.

Do you absolutely need a dyno tune? No. If you want you can find lots of people tell you that their bike runs great without it. Good for them. Will you be happier with a bike with a proper tune? You bet. Your mileage will stay reasonable, heat will be controlled, and you will have more power. Given your mods and your desire to control heat I'd recommend you get the bike tuned but a reputable tuner. Ask around. Dont settle on the dealer because they are close.

If you are going to do it, do it right. There's no sense in half-assing a tune on a bike that costs as much as a car.

Maybe 30 minutes for installation and TP settings, not including engine warm-up time. It's a matter of removing the right saddlebag and side cover (1 min.), plugging in the PCIII (1 min.), then strapping the PCIII on top the ECM with wire ties (max 10 min.), then another few minutes to rearrange all the wiring neatly under the side cover using more wire ties.

Add another 10 min. (once bike is warmed up) to perform your throttle-position settings (0% and 100%) using a computer connected to the PCIII. The best method for this is to...

(1) warm the bike up thoroughly (take a 10-mile ride)
(2) attach the computer to PCIII via USB cable
(3) attach 9V battery adapter
(4) Turn on ignition but do not start bike
(5) open PC software
(6) click on Power Commander Tools menu tab
(7) click on Set Throttle Position
(8) click on Reset
(9) Open throttle all the way, hold for a few seconds
(10) Turn off ignition, close PC software, disconnect 9V adapter and USB cable, and replace side cover and saddlebag.

I have never been able to get a good 100% TP setting while the engine is running because you can only blip the throttle very briefly. It needs a few seconds to set properly and using the 9V battery and turning the ignition on it'll work properly the first time.
