Just picked up a set of Rush Slip-ons. I really want to install them so I can hear how they sound on my bike but don't know if it can hurt the engine if put them on without changing A/C and doing the HD download. Any thoughts?
I don't think it'll hurt anything too much. You'll get a fair amount of deceleration popping 'cause it'll be so lean. It'll be best, though if you get some sort of fuel management device, even without the mufflers.
Run Em' - If ya start Poppin' - Then you might as well complete the Stage 1... It's really not that much more $$$ and will improve your performance & the bike WILL RUN COOLER...
V&H FuelPak - $219.00
Ness Big Sucker - $129.00
Thanks for the info. I talked to a service guy at the local HD just a few minutes ago and he said they've been istalling mufflers on '07s without doing the complete stage 1 and because the '07 come with the oxigen sensor the bike automatically compensates for the change. No problems yet, although he said they haven't installed any Rush mufflers yet. I'm doing the complete stage 1 anyway...I just can't wait...I really want to hear how the scoot will sound.
Unless there's been drastic changes 06 vs. 07.....simply installing slipons won't hurt at all. Tuning is necessary once the aircleaner is changed (more air into the engine....when just the slipons are added, the stock air cleaner limits the airflow into the engine, even with better flowing slipons). I added SuperTrapps when I first purchased the bike.....absolutely no issues observed (plugs looked OK at 1000 miles when I added a SE aircleaner kit and PCIII)
Go ahead and put the slip ons on. If you have access to an impact tighten the clamp bolts with it. The clamps are hard to properly tighten with just a wrench or ratchet. Recheck all nuts and bolts after a few miles to make sure they are secure. Also check your plugs after 20 miles or so and check if they are really white, this is a sign of running lean.
Where are you guys finding the Rush slip ons with the 1.75 baffle. Everywhere I have tried is out of stock. I have the SERT and A/n BS ready to go on but figured I would do it all at the same time.
