Default Complete noob on this...

So I called in about my 10,000 mile service, $660.00! Time to start doing it myself. Need some help though. When I look for service manuals, I see USB drives on eBay for $25.00. Is that what I order, or is there and "official HD" one that I need to get. Also, for anyone who has a similar bike and does your own service, is there anything overly complicated? I'm not a wrench turner, but I ain't stoopid.... I have changed oil, rotated tires, and changed brake pads. None of which, I know, is very difficult, but I wouldn't want to get into something that a tech would really be better doing.

Thanks in advance

As far as I know, there are no "Official" electronic versions of the FSM. You have to buy the book.
As a fair warning, don't post a link to what you're looking at, this thread will get closed.
You may be able to find a hard copy on EBay.
I know they are expensive, but it will pay for itself as you are finding out.

I've bought the download and thumb drive ones. Both times it was a scanned copy of the official H-D manual. It's not as good as an old fashioned paper manual that you lay on the floor or stand while working on your bike. Worst case you might have to print out some of the pages. It's the future of things and no stopping it.

HDForums no longer prohibits talk or links to digital factory service manuals. It is now the responsibility of the copyright holders to pursue remedies for copyright violations.

Thanks for posting. I would not have been aware of HDF's change in position on copyrighted materials.

Look in the rear of your Owner's manual. It will list (or used to) the part numbers for the Service Manual, Electronic Diagnostic Manual, and Parts Manual..

Then go to an online HD dealer for best price...

eBay is a good resource for older manuals, but beware... I've found used manuals on eBay with a higher price than a new manual from an online dealer..
For example, you can still get a 2001 Harley Factory Softail Service Manual (#99482-01A) from Surdyke HD Online online for $97.46. There is a used one on eBay for $139.92, marked down from $159.00, with a banner saying "save 12%"....

PS- I bought one of those USB manuals from eBay for a car... It was a photo copy of the actual manual, but it wasn't the best resolution, and it was nearly impossible to navigate... I would never buy one again..

i bought the Touring Service Manual for my ‘21 from New Castle. They were back ordered forever but have been shipping. It cost me like $117 shipped. MAKE SURE you get the right year for your bike. The older ones are often available on eBay.

For me, I'm not downloading or using a flash drive from an unknown source. Not in todays cyber crime world...

Between the Factory Service Manual and this amazing site, you should be able to handle many, many tasks. Unless you have a warranty or the Extended Warranty requiring the dealerships maintenance, you can handle many of these tasks yourself. Find a trusted riding buddy or a good Indie in your area and build a trust with them. Much cheaper.
