Guys, I have searched previous threads and am unable to find reference to my specific issue.
I just bought this 2004 Road King, fuel injected Shriners Edition, w/ 30,500 mi. Runs like a top, after 1st gear. I like to leave a stop sign/light nice & easy. Most times that I do, at about 5-10mph it loses forward momentum and hesitates and then there will be a deep sucking of air and then it’ll take off. It doesn’t do this if I get on it a little, say if I’m at a light with a straight shot.
yes, I get the occasional exhaust backfire, that’s not my real concern (or should it be?). The sudden loss of momentum causes me to twist the throttle more to pull myself out of the slump.
any ideas? I’m prepared to do anything that general consensus tells me to. I don’t know what long term affects will be if it continues, so I want to get handled right now. It’s a beautiful bike and I recently rescued it from a couple of morons.
welcome to the forum . does it have a tuner? could possibly be intake seals allowing air in. I have sprayed carb cleaner lightly around the intake to see if it picks up rpms to test the seals.

Glad to be here. I did spray Carb & Choke cleaner around the intake. Nothing! It does not have a tuner. The bike rumbles and shakes at an idle as if it had a set of nice cams. It has a screaming eagle breather and a set of aftermarket slip-ons. It sounds great. So I thought maybe it has a HD flash in the ECM. I’ve asked HD if they could tune the bike but they said they need to know what it’s got in it first.
Welcome, Great year of bike. I am a relative newb to the Harley "world" but had no idea there were 04 RK's in a Shriners Edition.
Would love to check out a picture.
You have a 2004 Road King fuel injected with 30, 500 miles.
Bike is new to you.
Any chance that hose at fuel pump in fuel tank ..part 62357-00 has a pin hole?
It would be most noticeable when bike is at 1/4 of a tank when you need to go from zero to throttle.
Basically a loss of fuel pressure due to a pin hole in fuel line.

that’s interesting. It’s never been below 3/4 tank since I got it. But I will definitely keep tabs on that. Thanks!!

Good luck with the issue(s)
Hopefully the morons didn't wreck it on you.
according to the VIN and HD financing (R2R program), it’s a Shriners Edition.
