Default Run/Turn/Brake Module

I just installed this on my Ultra and I really like the way it lights up the back of the bike,. I think that the added visibility can only be good. From reading earlier posts on this, there was some concern that the turn signal bulbs operating as running lights get very hot and can melt the plastic lenses. Has anyone with this mod installed had this problem? Is there an easy way to change the stock bulbs to LED's on the brake & turn signals so that heat is not an issue?

I'm running Radiantz LED clusters in mine. Very bright but not cheap. This is just in run mode when I had them on my Street Glide.

This is run mode at about 100ft away.

just wait until the module messes up. Then you'll have no visibility.

Should I assume from this comment that you have had the module installed and it "messed up"? Wouldn't the original connector have as much of a chance to "mess up" as this new one? After all it is a genuine HD part just like the original one.

I sure would like to hear about it if anyone has had any first hand knowledge of this part completely failing and leaving someone with no directional signals at all.

If the comment was just meant as a "what if" then I will continue to run with added lighting and keep my eyes to the skies for meteors at the same time.

its not like its hard to just remove the module if it messes up. just unplug it and plug the wiring harness back together. we actually did have one problem with one of the wifes bike, seems that they didn't route the wiring very good under the rear fender and the insulation got rubbed through. this in turn allowed a bare wire to short directly to ground. result: no right side running light (or turn signal/brake light) the taillight and left side still worked properly. thought it was a bulb, stopped at the store and got a new bulb, replaced it, still no workie. thats when i discovered the wiring. fixed the wiring, but still had no light on the right. i guess the voltage surge popped the module. replaced it, and all was fine. (of course we switched it out with mine first to make sure before spending the money again)

i ran this module on my sporty for 4 years and never had a heat problem, been running it on the road king for a year, again, no heat problems.

some say that it makes the running lights too bright which will make folks behind you think you have your brake lights on permanently, but for as bright as they are, you can definitely tell a difference between running and brake.

Good info... thanks. I have the new module zipped on top of the rear fender under the seat in a place where the seat is not pinching any of the wires. Hopefully it will last there.

I checked the brightness of the turn signal running lights in the garage and the brake lights seem much brighter than the running light function. Maybe outside its not as noticeable. Either way, the center brake light is just as it was before so I would think that anyone behind me would notice any one of the 3 lights getting brighter.

Not to mention, I also have a brake light modulator from Kisan that flashed a very noticeable pattern on the center brake light whenever I touch either brake.

If someone runs into the back of me with all of those lights blinking and a flashing.... I guess it's just my time...

Module installed on RKCustom since 04 no issues. Also have on 07 Ultra. I check my lights before each ride so I know I am good when I start....can't vouch for what happens on the road though.

I had to replace mine once after about 2 yrs. But it was my own fault. At some point during washing or service the module became out of position and got a little crushed by my fat a$$ I guess. It lasted a while after this buit eventualy I guess it got wet or just finaly crapped out. Worked out okay because I had the older model that just made the turn signals into brake lights not run lights. Now I have the run light version.

Not to highjack the topic,......but is there a module that converts the lights on the Ultra tour pack so they become turn signals and brake lights? I already have the module for the lower turn signals installed to convert them to run/stop. I'm always looking to add more visability to the rear. My goldwing had factory lights that resembled a greyhound bus but man was it visable.
