There are so many options that’s a question that cannot be answered easily.

Dig in to this forum and do some research online too to figure out what you want, then you have to figure on who is gonna do the work.....dealer? Indy shop? You?

Good luck with your choices and decisions

Depending on whether you go HD or aftermarket, prices could vary a lot. Are there any bike shops close to you, or a phone call away? What did the dealer quote?

Doing it yourself? Or paying a shop? There's a lot of factors that go I to it. On my M8 114 I just did a full stage 2. Cam, plate, pump, lifters, tensioner, tuner, 2-1 and it came in at just under 3k. I did all the labor. So add 5 to 8 hours labor to the bill if you have a shop do it.

Typically, stage one is hi flow AC, exhaust, tuner & labor to install & tune, but parts costs vary widely. Air cleaners list anywhere from $150-$600, exhaust can be mufflers, from $200-$1000, or full systems up to almost $2000, tuners are reasonable in comparison, $350-$900. Most places charge an hourly installation rate, from $75-$150, and a flat charge for tune time on the dyno, so multiply the shop rate * the quoted time charge, plus the tune fee. Say they quote 1.5 hours to remove stock components and install new parts, plus $500 tune fee. Your total bill could be anywhere from $1312.50 plus tax and shop supplies, to over four thousand dollars. Average stage 2 adds cams, bearings, lifters, push rods, gaskets, and a few hours more labor to the equation, typically another $1500, plus another tune.

I just had stage 1 and 2 done on a new FLHRXS by the dealer. Air cleaner was not replaced since the stock was already high flow. $3k

Think about it this way , simply put , the stage 1 is going to improve engine temp and give you a smoother running engine , with a little bit of performance . Now put in a set of cams , you'll have a totally different experience , combining the stage 1 and 2 together will save you big $$$ in the long run , especially if you go with a dyno tune . If you plan on a stage 2 eventually , you might better off doing it now .

If you do plan on getting a PV tuner , you could do all the work yourself , save some $$ , then do the stage 2 later on , but do your research , so your not back peddling to go to the next stage .

If you decide to go with a stage 2 , look at the Woods tw222 cam , great dyno #'s right out of first gear , my bike is a totally different beast now , power right off the start and just wants to keep going through all the gears , extremely happy with the results .

I do most of my own work and this is very easy to do yourself. I am guessing at the costs but After market A/C like a big sucker or something like that 150.00, Then headers like V&H 450.00 or just decat your header maybe 150.00. Maybe a power commander and a dyno tune 500.00 this is thinking you already have after market mufflers.

As little, or much as you're willing to spend. Any idea on your budget?

Also keep in mind , if you ever decide to add an external breather to your air cleaner , purchase the right set up , some aren't equipped for it , like the Big Sucker , I had to modify mine , drill and tap to add hoses etc .
