When you put the new leads on is there an option to put a sleeve of some sort on where the wire will rub?

Never had that problem. Whenever I reinstall the fuel tank after having it off, I check the routing and tweak if required

I've been wanting to run braided cloth wires on mine but the only answers I can ever get on here about the ion sense are from people that have no idea and are just regurgitating what they've read online or forming uneducated opinions. I don't mean that in a hateful way, we all know it's true.
If there is anyone here who has actual experience running non-HD wires on ion sense coils and could enlighten us as to whether it will work or not, I'd appreciate it.

Before it gets rubbed through, lube plug boot with rubbing alcohol, pull off plug boot.
slide on a piece of shrink wrap ( marine style has glue) and position it.
lube plug boot again and slide it back on. Done

And how many miles and years does it take for the issue everyone seems to know about to happen? At least back to 2007 I have never replaced a set of plug wires on any of the Touring bikes. 07,11,13,16,17,20

Happens faster than you think. You can rotate the front wire on the plug end and get it away from the tank, but for how long no one knows.
