I have a 1997 FLHR Road King with a S&S 113ci and a Baker DD6 trans as far as I know I am running the stock 139-1 1/2in wide belt and I noticed some wear on a ride I took to Pit from Va. Wasent bad made it there and back with not much wear but a bit in the middle of the belt. Then took a 50 mile ride a few days later and developed this havent taken the primary off yet but does anyone have any idea whys its wearing this fast like this?
Most likely a rock caught up between the front pulley, trans case and inner primary case. You are not the first person to have this happen. I would change that belt as soon as i could.
That happened to me when I took my bike in to the dealer for a warranty replacement of a bad exhaust clamp. They dropped the nut to the clamp between the belt and the primary, test rode the bike and proceeded to tell me it wasn't their fault and I couldn't take the bike until I paid them to replace the belt as it was now unsafe.
Should I just say **** it and swap to a chain? Ive have nothing but problems with these ****in belts!
Your call.... but.....
I owned two shovel heads with chains... there was a fair bit of maintenance with those chains...
Since '89, I've owned five Harleys with final belt drives.... other than setting the belt tension and rear wheel alignment anytime the rear wheel was removed, I've yet had the need to touch or address a belt issue...
From my perspective/experience, the belts are far better than my old chain drives...

Well over $400 and three days over a $5 clamp.
That's INSANE!! THEY screw up your bike, then say it's not their fault.
I would be having a serious conversation with the owner of that shop!!!
