Default Advice on purchase

I Have located a 2000 Road King Classic. Im riding a Sporty now but want something else. This bike is the black ang green model. It has 5700 miles and I cant find any defects other than a few scratches on the top of one of the bags, Broken glass in fuel guage, and rear tire is slightly worn. All of this the owner is willing to fix before I purchase it. The asking price was 13800 he came down to 13200. My question is what else should I check for.I dont want a 13000 mistake . With the price so low I am worried that there is some kind of problem. The bike runs good and rides great. Is there any "common" issues with the 2000 RKC's. Im I going to regret switching from my fast sprorty to this Beuty? And comments would be great .

That's very low mileage for a 2000 model.

One thing you'd wanna do is have the camchest serviced and replace the bearing. THere was a big problem on the 99's, but I believe it spilled over into the 2k's as well.

Just a thought... I bet if you looked REALLY hard you could find a brand new 07 RK for pretty close to 15k. Could be wrong.. but quite possible.

I got an 06 that I would sell for 14,000 with like 8000 miles, that is way to much money, and if it's fuel injected the old MM system sucks, I have help convert a bunch to a carb. That is WAY to much money in my opinion.

I looked at new bikes. But Ill be damed if I am payin 1600 in destination and setup fees. Thats a bs charge IMHO. Plus the color on this one is nice. What exactly was that 1999 problem? How can I tell if this one has it?

I'd have to say that an 06 for 14K is much better than a 2k for 13k!

I can also say that there's probably nobody better than Bart to buy one from...

Again I have to ask what was the problem with the fuel injection? Do the bikes not run or you just dont like it? Details will help me decide.

The fi (if so equipped) on 2001 and earlier is not really very flexible and won't get you the performance and fuel mileage that you will on a 2002 and newer. I have a couple of friends that have the older style fi and they hate it !!! There are only a few "generic" map downloads that you can select from.... it's a take it or leave it approach from the MoCo.... they also have cam chain tensioner issues and cam bearing issues compared to the newer models... can't speak on the price though.. i think that's kind of regional anyway... for what it's worth.... good luck !!!!

- A 2000 may or may not have the weaker rear cam bearing. It may have once had it and been updated.

- A 2000 will have the smaller 3/4" rear axle. 2002 and up got updated to 1" rear axles.

- It will have a weaker rear swingarm that is known to crack.

- It will have the older style Marelli injection. Some people have troubles. I have not had any out of mine in 66k miles. I get in the low 40's for gas mileage.

- A 2000 will have a stronger crank bearing than the 2003-up bikes.

- The cam chain tensioners are the same for the first 6 years of Twin Cams. They all need to be changed some time or another. That is a moot point.

IMO, 13k is too much money for a 2000 RKC.

MY '01 FLHRCI with a Stage 1 (Rinehart TD - SE Air & Power Commander) gets 40+ mpg - Never had any problems and still runs like new with over 50K...

PRICE isn't really that low should go for around $12,500 - $13,200 (more if performance up-grades have been done)

Biggest question: Is it what you want??? Does it fit your needs??? If so... Buy it... It's like night and day from a Sportster...

Not sure about the market where you guys are but around here (Texas) Road kings dont get much cheaper. All I have seen in the 11000 range are ****. Cycle trader shows most 2000 models over 15000?
