First off, this is some first world problem stuff. I could care less of having music but I want my USB port for google maps purposes. I finally gave up on trying to use my tiny dash compartment to hold my phone and installed a mount for it on the bars. Newer phones only fit about 2/3 in, if that. So I designed an insert that fits into the dash compartment that allowed me to mount a marine grade USB port inside the dash compartment. While this didn't fix anything, it allowed me to have two USB connections and to be able to plug/unplug with one hand. I might make a few more if there is an interest in it.

As long as you’re happy that’s all that matters. Many ways of doing it and they all work. I chose to replace the fairing mounted power supply (cig lighter) with a similar USB setup.
Looks good. I've been thinking about running the plug out the back and up the brake line. I don't keep my phone in there either, I use a handlebar mount to hold the phone. I really like the way you did that though, looks clean.
