Default 2003 Road King

I recently purchased a 2003 Road King. I’m trying to find out what max height handlebars I can do without having to change any of the cables. They sit way too low for me. Any advice would be great. Thank you

Forget about trying to change bars without lengthening wires. Much better to change bars to fit you. Bite the bullet and get the bars you really want and lengthen wires / cables to suit.

I have to see what I’m comfortable with. I ride for work and the road kings we have are at a nice height but I would like a little taller

How tall are you? I'm 5'11 ish depending on how my back feels and those are 16 inch apes I put on my 2002 RK. I love them.

I had 10 inch apes on my 2002 with stock cables. I don't think you can go any higher that that. I now have 14's and love them. I am 5'11".

If the OEM bars "sit way too low" for you, I doubt you will like a replacement bar that would fit with the OEM cables... which is about 10" as a couple have mentioned.....

I've read numerous posts where people regret going to a size that they later felt was just a little too short. There have been many, "I went 10/12 in., but should have gone 12/14in." posts..

My advice would be to, "Do it right, do it once"....

Enjoy the new bike...

10 fit easy, 12s will be tight and you need to reroute your clutch cable, if you have a cable

Either height if you run wires internally you need to extend the wires

This is correct - I run 10 " risers with low rise bars maybe 1-2 " with stock cables on a 03 RK

I installed 12’s on my Electra glide. I bought the LA Choppers clutch cable and throttle cables and they were all too long so I am in the process of replacing them. It looks like +4-+6 on the clutch and +4 on the throttle/idle will fit nicely with stock routing. The wiring fit without any issues, no extensions needed.

I must be the exception because I got 12’s and think I would have been happier with 10’s. It seems like my hands are a little too high so I have to drop them to get the blood flow back after a while. Otherwise they are very comfortable and look good. I’m 5’8”.
