Headset Communication
Don't want to spend a ton of money but need comms with riding buddies,
Looking at Fodsports M1-3 or M15 Pro, both less than $100
But can they be used with a half helmet, how would they attach
Don't really ride that much but would be nice to relay wishes to other riders
Thanks

The Sena SMH10 is supposed to be pretty good. Attaching any headset type of comms is problematic with a half helmet, though. There are pouches that are supposed to attach, but I have yet to see any that looked like they worked well. Would love to hear about ones that do.

I’ve used these on a Bell Pit Boss half helmet and they worked pretty well.

Then i decided screw it and went to the other end of the spectrum and bought the best
Cardo packtalk bold is simply the best system you can get, and yes it can be fit to a half helmet(but you do have to buy an extra kit with a boom mic to make that work) Worth Every Penny
Pros
great wind noise cancelation
great music volume(can easily hear at highway speeds) and decreases music volume when someone talks over com
voice commands
phone integration to take phone calls
once you have it set up in mesh mode connects to previous members of your group automatically(and recconects if they go out and back into range)
good battery life
good range(if you can see them it will probably work and gets better the more people in your group)
you wont ever need to upgrade your stereo as this is better(and cheaper)
turn by turn directions from your phone sent directly to your helmet
waterproof
cons
you and your buddies have to chose the same system(cardo, senna, and the others work as well together as oil and water)
once you have started riding with the system you will hate riding without it
you will forget all your hand signal and warning signals(now you will just tell folks)
cost but as i said....worth every penny

Yea find out what the people you ride with use, and go with that brand, otherwise there can be issues. I have Sena, but have heard the Pak Talk is better, but all my friends use Sena. With either system, if you use the bikes Nav, you will have to either get directions over the speaker, or install the WHIM. If you get directions directly from your phone, then WHIM is not needed.
The Sena and Pak Talk both have very similar capabilities, and pricing, I think. Expect to pay about $300 for top models. The Sena, comes with external boom mic and mic for internal, such as for a FF helmet, so no need to pay extra. Most half helmets I have seen, good ones, offer the vecro ear pads to house speakers. I wear FF and 3/4 helmets, so cannot comment on quality.
With my Sena 20S, its easy to connect to another person, but I have yet been able to connect to 2 others at once. The unit is capable, so I am sure I have not figured it out yet.
I am starting to think the best way might be a CB, as far as connecting to more than one other person. Just get everyone in the same channel and good to go. Then could use headset to have private convo with your pillion.

i have the sena 30k units, and the hd boom audio helmets (which have integrated 30k units). the wife and i use the mesh option. it works great, and connection couldn't be easier. just press a button, and it connects.
so, i would recommend finding out what other comms your buddies have, and if no one has any yet, make sure you get units that support mesh. either sena of cardo.
i understand mesh and bluetooth connections don't play together very well, so don't try to mix a 30k and a 20s.
