My Electra Glide Classic has a factory alarm system. I'm interested it finishing is off by installing the siren. I've looked under the right side cover and found what I think to be the plug for the siren. First, am I looking in the right place? Second, it is only about $89 at my dealer, is it worth it?
Thanks ahead of time.
That's it - Guess it is worth it if you stay close enough to hear it but I opted not to get it - Use it for the Kill switch but ya know if they want it they will steal it - I just make sure I am fully insured - kess
My bike ('05 RKC) didn't come with the security system. I looked at other options in the aftermarket arena but opted for the HD stuff. I knew it was made for the bike and there would a place for everything to fit. I installed the security module, siren II and bought the page that works hand-in-hand with the siren II.
Yes, you are looking in the right place. The siren mounts behind the ECM bracket. It snaps into place. If you install the siren II it also has a wire used to transmit the signal to the pager if so desired. You just run that wire along the section of frame under the seat.
Since you already have the module installed you should have no problems. If you were installing the actual security module (TSSM) to replace the existing turn signal module (TSM) you would have to go through the "learning" steps to match the new module with the ECM.
Kess states an excellent point....if they want to steal it, they will steal it. However there's nothing wrong with making it as hard as possible for them. I like the pager just for the situation of mall shopping, going out to dinner, etc. Nothing would please me more than to have the pager go off and I walk up on someone messing with the bike.
I bought the siren II with the pager also. Haven't got the pager yet but their isn't much difference between the two and figured I would go that route and could always get the pager later. On the Ultra do you have to pull the saddlebag to get the cover off necessary to install the siren?
I have the factory alarm and I added the siren to my RKC. The siren part is a joke, but at least you call hear the chirp when you arm and disarm. Me thinks I will pass on the siren install on the new Ultra.
A simple, 9V battery and a bright LED on the dash panel works as well as any alarm system...since the system plugs in, it can unplug as well...and how many people even bother to look in the direction of a car alarm anymore (much less bother to intervene?)
Buy the siren. For $89. it's worth it. Of course everyone poins out that if someone wants your bike, they'll take it. The alarm is a deterence not a guarantee. Thiefs being thiefs would rather steal one of they other guys bikes that doesn't have a 115db alarm wailing at them as they attempt to steal your bike. By the way if your forks and ignition are locked they won't be riding off with your bike which means it will require 4 men to carry yor bike off. As much as people ignore car alarms, it would be fairly hard to ignore a 750 + motorcycle being carried off by 4 guys with an alarm shrieking at them as they load it in to a truck. Personally I like having my alarm and require it on all my bikes.
I wanted the remote pager, but the siren II is required, so I got both. The siren isn't very loud, but it does chirp when you arm and disarm. The remote pager is nice - anyone messes with your bike, if you are within 1/2 mile it goes nuts. It gives me peace of mind while the bike is out of my sight.

The factory little add-on siren is actually pretty dam loud. I was surprised how load after installing it. If I had it to do over I would by it again.
nothing will stop a good thief but the siren will scare an inexpierienced one. my freind prked a heritage classic on fifth avenue early in the morning to get payroll to his employees and the witness said two guys with steel poles walked up to it put one thru the rear and one thru the front and then a van pulled up and two men hopped out picked up the other half of the poles and put it int the truck and left. she said 30 seconds , it was toast.maybe a pager alarm that is silent and a smith and wesson 357 mag
