I recently purchased a FLHRS 2007 Road King, it had been a stolen recovery that was sold by the insurance company. Everything is legit except whenever I order parts for the bike they are most often wrong. When I researched the bike it says it should have a 96ci but it has an 88ci as well as a carb but online specs say fuel injected. VIN is good but when I search the engine serial number, *DJV5660290* it comes up blank, it is on the plate left side above primary but it makes no sense. It runs ,drives and looks great but very confusing in regards to engine and number, even a replacement motor should be able to research. Any idea about engine number, it is etched just like I wrote it with the asterisk.
First. 2007 did not have a carburetor. Second 2007 did not have a TC88. Seems you may have a 2007 that was stolen . Once recovered some shop stuck what ever they had around in it and sold it.
First thing you should do is run the VIn The frame vin will with out a doubt tell you want the bike was new. Then check the stamped number on the engine it will match part of the frame vin. . If it does not then it is not the engine that came on that bike.
If you post the full VIn some can help you figure it out. With what you posted it appears you have a 2007 RK that has had an older engine put in it.
In your case it appears the engine was not the one that came in that bike new. Simple fact is you got screwed.
You can take the stampeded engine number and figure out what the engine was when manufactured. This will not always work on old bikes but is simple on yours.
Run your VIN number here
VIN is 1HD1FY4167Y640163 and it shows the right bike must have an engine swap, licensed and registered it with no issues, have all documents from insurance company and police, they don't care about eng ser. ,doesn't really bother me about eng just makes it a pain when dealer orders me parts by VIN, have to explain it has different eng.
Another scenario is one of the owners along the way had some motor issues and decided to replace with an 88 motor before it got stolen. 2006 was the last of the 88 for the FLHRS.
If you want motor parts, you just have to remember it's for an 88 carb. For frame related parts, it's an 07 and earlier.
