Got an 07 Ultra. Went out for a long ride today. About 30 miles from home she won't idle lower than 2500 RPM's. Had just come off cruise control. Then the dash light pops on. By the time I get home, idle speed is up to almost 3000 RPM's. I disconnected the PC 111 but it had no effect, still idles high. Any ideas, suggestions? Bike has just over 3000 miles.
could possibly be a cable binding issue. I noticed in my manual the other day a section on adjusting the cruise. I don't think the PCIII has anything to do with it. Start at the simple things first and work down from there. Maybe an air leak too, did it start running any different? Just guessing
Could the bike have been overheating? I believe that the ECM will increase RPM's to compensate for higher engine temperatures. Do a search regarding Engine Temps.
I've read that a faulty heat sensor can cause the same symptoms.
I've got the same problem with my 06 EGC. Hot days it drives me nuts. Cool days, only screws up once in a while.
It's going in to the dealer Wed.
We'll see what they say.
Heat issues went away with the addition of the PCIII. Bike has run fantastic up until Saturday. Did notice that the last few days that the idle would fluctuate between 900 and 1300. With the idiot light coming on it kinda sounds like something electrical. I'm thinking one of the sensors went south. Will be taking it into the Indy shop here in town tonight. They work after 8:00 PM so that they can get more done. You know no phones.
It sounds like a intake leak after the throttle plate, maybeat the intake to head seals or possible cracked intake flange. Thecomputer notices more air or lean, and will adjust fuel accordingly to try to correctthe mixture resulting in a higer idle. The code set is probably for high idle speed. This happened to me and a intake flange was cracked.
Spider51: Yes, having the same trouble w/ 06 SG (among w/ lots of other issues...).Also have PCIII.Although the engine light doesn´t come up, at least not the last time I rode. Hadlight ononce, read the codes and it was CPS trouble(373 and 374).Going to a dealer on 8/20 to get it fixed.Bike still has warranty so I don´t wanna mess with it, I´ll let the dealer sort this s*it out.
Been away for a while. Bike all better now. Rolled into Ukiah HD and their mechanic says here's the third one. Turns out the idle screw on some touring models was not lock tighted at the factory. Due to vibration the idle screw works itself in (downward) and wa la, high screaming idle. They said that it was the third one they had seen this month. All 2007 Tourer's.
