I've got a 14' Limited, thinking about trading it in maybe for a new Road Glide Special or Limited, The dealer just told me they're expecting a price increase of 1,500 in April. Out of the door price for the upgrades I want, we're looking at $ 44,000. (before price increase) I'm really having a hard time and don't think I'm going to pull the trigger. My question, are the prices of the new Harley's making you reconsider purchasing?
The price tag you stated for a Road Glide Special is way too high (not SVO, not sales tax etc.), should see around 31K with full package and all the goodies, and around 29K for basic with normal dealer profit built in to prices. Always evaluate the total package, if they are gouging you on retail price on the bike you want then they should be above full retail on your trade in by the same amount but expect the opposite to be true as well. There is a lot of overhead in a dealership, but you don't want to pay for everybody's vacation trip that year. I just bought a new Road Glide Special with all the options, paid 4K too much but got 3K above normal trade in on my old bike and two $500 gift cards. Had to bend over but didn't have to buy the Vaseline.
$44K, they are out of their ever loving mind. Take the "stock" bike and minus the "dealer holdback" from the Moco the dealer cost is 78% of that number so they are making 22% on every bike, this is fact. A very good friend is a GM of corporation that owns several dealerships, I have seen invoice. The "dealer prep" fees, BS. Harley pays the dealer for 2.5 hours of prep, so more profit. Shop around my friend.
GalvTex, good question and I should have been clearer. For the RG limited with stage 2 and tour pack quick release. On my 14, I got the quick release for free and discount on the stage 2 when bought. Maybe I'm getting old, but 44k+. I just spend 43 on my wifes Toyota Highlander.
I just bought a '22 Road King.. They charged exactly what HD lists on their web site (including options and the surcharge). The only extras above that were the exorbitant shipping and prep fees. They wouldn't dicker on the price.
But, I got a pretty good deal on the trade. They gave me $1K more than I expected to get selling it privately. Plus the dealer is 50 miles away. They delivered the Road King and picked up the trade at no extra cost.
