Interseting that the specs on the 08's claim 54 MPG, while the 07's claim 45. So far I am seeing 43-47 in the first 1200mi. 220-240ish when the low fuel light appears. Dealer said to expect the mileage to come in after 5-8k. I am not sure I buy that claim. Might just be a good way to keep people from coming back and complaining. .

I found with my 07 that if I keep my hand out of the throttle I actually do get near claimed fuel economy. About 42 MPG at an average cruising speed of 75MPH. If I'm on the throttle I drop to about 38ish.
My fuel economy did start to climb just before I hit 5k.

My 07 gets 42 city andhas gotten up to 53highway, and mileage does increase as more miles are put on as the bike breaks in and you develop a consistent riding style.
Since they can't run the engine much leaner or hotter, I suspect the discrepency between '07 and '08 EPA mileage estimates reflects a change in the EPA's method for calculating mileage. I've been tweaking my EFI map for eight months ('07 SG), and have gotten 50mpg several times if I'm light on the throttle, but I don't think this bike could get 54mpg rolling down Pikes Peak.
