The Klock Werks website says to sit on the bike and the top of the windshield should be even with your mustache. Between you upper lip and nose. You look over it so it doesn't impede your view but reduces wind and eliminates buffeting. The only time I get buffeting anymore is in a strong crosswind.
There are many options. The lip at the top is the key to having the effect of a taller windshield at a lower overall height.
Have a stock 2010 Road king classic. Love it. It seems to be right height (top is at my upper lip) but the 20" windshield makes my helmet "buzz" at hiway speeds.
I'm considering going to a 16"... the assumption being that at least my helmet will sit in 'clean' air with little buffeting, but will still have the windblast removed from my upper chest.
Any experience with going to a shorter shield?
I use Freedom Shields on all of my rides....they offer their shields in 1' increments so you can really "fine-tune" the wind blocking. They also have a very liberal "return policy" if you don't remove the protective covering when you "test-ride" them. Call them to discuss and they also offer a discount to Forum members if you ask.
On my Ultra Limited I ride their 10" Wide Turning shield. I see no distortion from the curve.

It's definitely the wind coming over the top and not that which is coming from under the fairing or off the crash bars. If I hold 4 fingers above the top of the windscreen it's gone.I'll look into the Freedom brand. Jes

As many riders have offered, I too have been very satisfied with Long Ride Shields and their “recurve” shields, on my Street Glide, and then my Road King. You can usually get a decent discount if you call them to order….
Measure based on the above comments on having the height of the shield top at or slightly below you nose-upper lip. I have read nothing but good things about Freedom Shields as well.
Right now I am trying a no name brand on my Ultra Limited - 4-1/2” recurve - just a very slight amount of air catches the top of my helmet, nothing I can’t live with, and complete unobstructed view over the top of my batwing.
I installed a ClearView on my 14 Limited right out of the gate. There are other brands to, Freedom & Long Ride. The recurve top does direct the wind up a few inches to clear and seems to work well.

I agree, with that, but can I add, something to this? I find sitting on the bike in the garage is different then riding, I find Im sitting lower while riding, I propped my bike up with 2x4`s to some what level. set on the bike in my riding position, Held a string at the top lip with a string level on it while my wife held the other end. once level, she measure to the screws on the windshield. To get my windshield height. But then again I am OCD.
