RE: Project Complete Pics (Not for the bandwidth impared)
ORIGINAL: modes
Must have the am I certain I am doing this correctly gut feeling cutting into a perfectly good fender like that. I will have that same feeling soon, but my outcome is going to be different. Bike looks sweet. Did you get tired of the apes or just felt that they would not fit the new look?
Yea that was pretty nerve wracking. Especially with my brother standing there saying, "Are you sure you are doing that right", "You know you can't fix that now", "How much did you pay for this bike", etc.
I finally sent him in the house so I could finish cutting.
As for the apes. It was a little of both. I really liked the look of the street slammers and have always liked drag bars. I ran the apes for a little while and took a run to a rally with them and just found them a bit awkward at low speeds. On the highway they are great and comfortable, but around town where I spend most of my time they would put my elbows into my sides when turning.
So in the end for about 50 / 50 looks and ride ability I decided to switch to the street slammer bars.
RE: Project Complete Pics (Not for the bandwidth impared)
great, now I'm really confused over which bars I want! I don't think I need new cables for the street slammers, so maybe I should try those first, so I won't be stuck with $300 worth of new cables. I'm 6'4". What size apes did you have? I was looking at 12-16" rise.
RE: Project Complete Pics (Not for the bandwidth impared)
I had the Chubby 18inch Apes, the two biggest things that I didn't like about them were slow turning (it would put my elbow into my side), and on the highway anything over 70 or so I would feel like a sail so I would get tired faster at about 100 miles or so, but my seat sucked at the time so I wanted to get off anyway.
The street slammers are betterI have made the same run from Dallas to Austin about 600 miles in 3 days never got tired and never had shoulder problems. I get just as many comments with these bars as I did with the apes seems they are both love em or hate em. It is up to you. With the street slammers you keep the stock length cables with the Apes you will need to get custom lengths.
