Went on a long ride (about 200 miles) with the better half yesterday and I noticed a noise coming from the right side of the bike. At first I thought it sounded like a mirror rattle until I stuck my head down on the right side near the gas tank. It sounds like a grinding/chewing sound but the pitch is a little higher (at idle). What's over there to be giving out or failing? I heard about something failing in the '06s but know can't remember (cam tensioners??). Bike has 7000 miles on it so far. Would like to know before I take it to the dealer and get their 2 cents.
I stuck my head downclose tothe engine under the air cleaner while it was idling in the driveway. Icould hear it real well so I am thinking it something on that side of the engine doing nasty things.
Hi,
I have an 06 Ultra also, once you get it figured out repost to fill us in, I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with mine (knock on wood). I hope it turns out to be nothing just one of those things that happen at times. Oh, if you take it to the stealer you will get only 1 cent worth of knowledge and a bill for several hundred dollars at the least, best keep looking or listening as it is before you go. Good luck
Pull the farring and check the back farring mounts, they have a tendency to break...
My '07 Street Glide was making a noise, a "tick", a "rattle",however you wish to describe it. Was much more noticeable @ idle, especially with my head down near the air cleaner and more so when the bike was "warmed up". When I would turn the front end to either side the noise would stop.
