Default Common Saddlemen....

Bought the Saddlemen BR3400 bag. It was between that one or HD bag. At the end, SM came in with backrest and straps, so I went with that.

But, there is a small issue that I wish they thought about. How I will mount the bag is to be on my passenger's backrest. The bag has a nice way of attaching to the backrest. I am going to set it down on the passenger's seat. That's where the small issue shows up. I can only attach provided back rest to the bag....to where it mounts to the backrest lol.. What kind of engineering is that? lol If I am mounting it sitting on the passenger's seat, what good is the backrest then?

Is there a trick to hook this up somehow that I am missing? I am actually baffled why they would do it like that. Unless I mount the bag towards the back, and have a passenger then that works, but not for solo rider. I just don't see a way to have attached backrest AND bag mounted to the sissy bar at the same time...

Damn Saddlemen....

Show different way to mount it.
Note, not a fan of mounting it on a passanger seat, since the bike vibration is going to make this end badly with seat wear.

So on that note, if passenger seat does have back rest that you can use as a strapping point, then look into maybe quick detach luggage rack for the bike if you want to be to remove it quickly, or permanent rack if your going to take the bag with you every time you get off the bike, but leave the rack behind and not easily removed to be stolen.

This will give the bag a platform to keep it up and off the fender, and.or not sitting on the passenger seat to cause vibration wear.

I have a Kury version of that bag, over 17 years old now. I just used bungie cords/straps to tie it down on my Wing and ST1300. Never had issues with it done that way... backrest up against me.

I have a bag similar to the Saddleman. I just use these straps or cinch straps to the D rings on the bag to tie it down on the bike. I sometimes use the H-D backrest attachments by the shocks and the sissy bar part as anchor points.

How did you attach the backrest to the bag? This is exactly how I want it setup

My apologies, I had forgotten that I cut the velcro off and glued it on the other " side"
It was years ago

That makes sense now. Man, I was wrecking my brain trying to figure out how you mounted that backpad with the stuff they provided. I don't know why they don't give that option to setup. It makes no sense to have all the pockets pointing to the back, if you want to velcro the backpad.

Thank you!

An option is you can get an extra backrest pad like this one by H-D. You can attach it to the D-rings on the bag.
