Default Is this normal?

Wiping my bike I noticed the muffler guard on upper right side moved a bit, and a flat head screw could slide up and down a bit. Tried turning screw but just rotates without tightening cannot see if missing nut on back. No rattle when running, but wondered if it's normal. Thanks!

Basic hose clamp. It is possible it was stripped. Easy to replace.

OP..... It's one of those two listed above....

Are you familiar with how a hose clamp works...? I'm not being condescending, but your question and response suggests you may not...

They have to be separated to go over the pipe and through a slot on the heat shield. The heat shield is then put into place and the hose clamps are tightened around the header. Once separated, you have to make sure the threads are pushed into the screw, to get it to tighten. It's possible when the exhaust was installed, the installer either forgot to tighten the hose clamp or didn't start it correctly and didn't realize it wasn't tight (a lame mistake)...

The other possibility is that once they are properly tightened, if you try to over-tighten them, you can strip out the slots in the clamp band that the screw bites into... That will render the hose clamp fairly useless and needing to be replaced...

If you can get a good look at the clamp that screw is attached to, you will know exactly what is going on...

If you can't see the clamp and/or don't want to "learn" about the clamps while working on your bike, go to a hardware/home improvement store and buy a hose clamp. You will see how it works.

You will then have the knowledge to remove that exhaust shield clamp and either fix it, or replace it...

This pic may help you visualize what everybody is talking about...

Yup. Familiar with them. Getting my rear shocks installed in the morning and will have clamp reattached or replaced. Thanks.

Looked at it again now that I know it's the hose clamp and tried squeezing band while turning screw but it won't "catch" the band. Will let shop tighten.
thanks for the posts all. It just didn't register what it was. Guess thinking hose clamps were for..hoses only.
