I adjust preload when we go long distances to allow for the weight of our loaded saddle bags and trunk bag. I do weigh what we pack, so my wife doesn’t overload the trunk bag. Once we get to the hotel and unload, I’ll back off the preload.
I also adjust preload when my 27 year old daughter goes on rides with me, along with changing out the Russell Day Long seat to a Harley Hammock
If it’s just me running errands or running around for the day, I’ll leave them alone.
the Pro Actions I had were more forgiving in this area, I rarely changed the Pre Load. My Ohlins 772’s are much more touchy and need the tweaks on preload more
Alright, so I used zip tie method. It worked out perfectly! I weighted both bags (40lbs) and around 30 lbs in sissy bar bag. I had to do 13 turns!
I think I did it right? I put a zip tie all the way to the bottom of the shock shaft, sat on the bike and noticed zip tie moved almost 2 inches. I kept repeating the process until zip tie moved 1 inch.
thats correct?
I am thinking about leaving them on but moving them to the top in case I need to make adjustments again.
