Anyone have issues with the cruise control losing speed? If I set it at 70, within 10 minutes or so, it will slowly drop to 65, then 60, etc. I haven't had the patience to see what happens if I let it slow all the way down.
Doesn't appear to be a power issue. Throttle is responsive and the bike pulls hard with a twist of the wrist. It's as if something is sending the decel signal over time lowering the speed. If I hit the accel button, nothing happens.
if I cancel and reset the cruise, it works again for a short period.
2003 Electra ultra EFI. Has a big bore kit, SE heads, Power Commander V, etc
Time to check thumb controls pads, and even wiring, since it sounds like an internment problem with the resume/set button.
Pressing and holding the RESUME/SET switch at SET will cause the system to continue to reduce speed in increments of approximately 1 mph (1.6 kph) until the switch is released. There is a delay of about 2 seconds before the speed decreases.
Funny , there's a spot ( dip ) on one of the highways I travel on frequently , shuts down my cruise every time .
Try spraying a little electrical contact cleaner in the cruise switches and work them back / forth , might be some debris or corrosion built up on the contacts .
I'll check the switches. Maybe they need a good cleaning. It would make sense if the bike is vibrating enough to make the switch make contact every so often.
I don't think it's road surface related. It does it no matter what road you're on.
If yours is turning off on bumps, check the throttle roll off switch on the throttle cable that's on the right side of the neck. The service manual points out that the wire terminals need to be pointed a certain way.
ON bumps in the road shutting off the cruise a lot of it has to do with the rear brake pedal bouncing down and activating the brake switch which shuts off the cruise.
And sometimes it can happen in the switches in the right handlebar.
I discussed this with the tech at my dealer awhile ago , said it would happen if the rear wheel suddenly went off road surface , the drastic speed change would cause the cruise to cancel itself out .
This dip is pretty major , it really jars the heck out of you when you hit it , not really anyway to avoid it though . My bike has electronic throttle control , not sure if that would make a difference .
If you think about , that's actually a good thing , if you ever went down or lost control .
BUT, those incidents wont do what your bike is doing, which is slowing down gradually from cruise.
Those incidents would be very abrupt.
Try looking at your cable lubrication.
If they are dry the sudden release of the cruise wouldn't be so sudden, but would drag the cables inside the sheath, producing symptoms you describe.
Does your throttle cable release quickly from wide open?(engine off)
Or is it sticky?
