You're probably right! Went back there a 2nd time a couple of years later with my wife to let her experience it. A group of us (5 couples) left here and went for a 9 day tour. Did the BRP again and rode around in the Great Smoky Mountains for a few days.
441 into Maggie Valley is an absolute must do. Then Dales museum. Thats another couple days. Just in the museum.
Safe travels, and take time to smell the roses. That’s the one criticism my wife always makes. She wants to stop more frequently to take in points of interest.
In my experience The lowers will help with leg fatigue leave them on if you can. They also block a lot of rain.
Thats one of the main reasons why I got them. I will monitor temperature on PowerVision, just to make me more paranoid about engine temp, because why not? lol. If it gets hotter than usual, I will remove them.
I want to welcome you to NC (when you arrive)! It's gonna be in the mid-80's all week in Charlotte and low to mid-70's in the mountain areas. Spotty rain everywhere, so glad you brought some rain gear.
As mentioned, lots of great riding towards the BRP and the Dragon. It's starting to get crowded at the Dragon now but weekdays might still be the best rides for lack of crowds if you want to experience it. Skyline Dr and Cherohala Hwy are great alternatives.
I remember my first long ride from Charlotte to Orlando. I did the same and brought everything I didn't need to be safe, and took 10 hrs. The wife flew down and we met in Orlando. Then we rode to the Keys. Was a great trip and she flew back. Only rain for me was through Georgia coming home. The entire ride through that state was rain.
Youll have a great time.
I remember my first long ride of 530 miles from Riverside CA to Richfield UT. Left CA at 6am, no coffee because I didnt want to stop to pee before I got to Barstow, so I took a caffeine pill to ward off the headache and it worked! But overall I was excited to do it. My bike handle flawlessly with exception of a mild overheating crossing the Virgin River Gorge pass due to one lane of uphill traffic in temps of about 103f. Each rest stop or gas stop was of necessity for my butt and body. Water drink plenty. Oh- and Milk Duds which I do not recommend. That was a challenge trying to navigate the box of duds and feed them into my pie hole wearing a FF helmet. Have a safe ride and post when you get there!
